Golf in English?

The LPGA has introduced a rule (link from the Guardian) stipulating that golfers must communicate in English or be suspended from the tour. Here's another link from Golf Digest

It seems the rule is mainly aimed at the 45 Korean Tour players who are becoming a dominant force in women's golf, and at maintaining interest in an American market increasingly alienated by the dominance of foreigners.

English as a prerequisite for playing Golf? How about perfect teeth or a minimum dress length? No moustache allowed?

Personally I feel this is insanity.

What do you think?

Insanity indeed! How much English will be enough? Imagine if you could not compete in Spain unless you were fluent in Spanish! This smacks of paranoia dreamt up ny the marketing men. Thereseems, however, to be very little public adverse reaction at present from players (English-speaking or otherwise). Perhaps the lure of the USD is too strong.

Hi Mike.

The lack of adverse reaction, as you say, can I'm sure be explained by no one wanting to lose their income. In women's golf the USD is certainly queen.
